The Year Marches On
As the year Marches on and springtime is only a week away, at last through open windows we feel the gentle breath of a new spring, matched by the warmth of sunshine on our skin. The zeal for getting outdoors becomes less of a distant winter fantasy.
While the news of the world can feel deeply overwhelming and uncertain, one thing we can do is ground ourselves in the beauty of nature and it’s eternal reaffirming joys.
This month at Dress, we have followed a colour themed inspiration, to reflect our feeling of connection with Mother Earth.
The blues of deep pacific waters in our 1950s glazed cotton and silk day dresses and waisted jackets.
The pale azure of uplifting summer skies in mid century pieces, including our favourite tule ball gown by Bellville Et Cie, worn by Ann Hathaway in 2006. As well as a divine Ceil Chapman silk cocktail dress. Our white evening and wedding dresses: the billowing clouds drifting by.
And to bring us down from the heavens - tones of desert sands in our 1950s silks and cottons, and rich earth colours in 1960s chiffons, as well as tan suede jackets and wool coats in light camel shades.
Woven through the collection are striking black and white printed dresses and suits. The motifs ranging from delicate florals to abstracts and geometrics, from the likes of Frank Usher and Susan Small.
Only scratching the surface of the selection in store this month, more can be found following our colour theme if you pay us a visit!
With occasions and events finally firmly set in the diary we are still offering our styling service to find the perfect outfit for you from Mary’s extensive archive. Read more about the service and how to get in touch here.
