A New Year

A New year, and new beginnings.

This can come with uncertainty, but just as night follows day, there are eternal constants in this changing world… The cycles of nature, the wonder of the seasons, the revolutions of the sun.

The incomparable Metaphysical Poet John Donne describes it best in ‘The Sun Rising’.

…Shine here to us, and thou art everywhere;

This bed thy center is, these walls, thy sphere.

At Dress, we are so aware of the cyclical nature of fashion, through trends that come and go in patterns.

Our need for newness always in turn sends us looking at the past for inspiration. Styles gone by come back into fashion reimagined, in a new context. Original vintage is a sustainable and authentic way to keep the continuation of fashion going, while breaking the unsustainable cycle of fast fashion.

A trend we have always loved, and are excited to see the high street revisit is the Bubble Dress! Designed by Yves Saint Laurent for Dior in 1959. Full of youthful joy and exuberance, they can take you from Bride to After Party.

This Month we’re also introducing ‘Dress Achieve’, sharing rare and exclusive treasures from Mary’s private collection, on display as visual pleasures to be admired as iconic parts of fashion history. Enticing eye candy to delight!

We also feature Haute Couture items from Dior to Givenchy, Hardy Amies to Lilly Ann & Ceil Chapmen to Jacques Hiem. Luxurious fabrics of Mohair and silk, superlative craftsmanship, and innovative design. These delicacies are a feast for all the senses!

A soft colour palette to ease us into the year. Muted tones of beige, sand and blue; a January sunrise.

The cold snap inspires our shades of mist and ice in silver and grey.

This gentle but elevated collection will see us through the dark days of January & February before we 180 into a 1960s punch of primary colour and mod geometrics to send us into spring… watch this space.
